  • Your age should be over 18 years.
  • You should have completed a Canadian High School Education or its equivalent.

Pre-Licensing Course

Like any other industry in Canada, it is mandatory to complete pre-licensing training. You can do this from a certified institution before appearing for the real estate licensing exam.

The duration of the training, educational, and licensing details, may differ across provinces or territories.

The pre-registration course includes insights into choosing real estate as a career. For instance, land structure and real estate trading, residential and commercial real estate transactions, real property law are part of this course. This course runs for 18 months, and online options are available.

The Licensing Exam

To succeed as a Real Estate Agent in Canada, you will need to complete a series of Salesperson Licensing courses. After completing this pre-registration process, you can apply for initial salesperson registration.

The practical training, also known as the Articling Segment, is the next step and is a 24-month course. There are four options in this stage, and you can choose one from the following.

Apply for Your License

Applying for your license is an essential step to becoming a qualified real estate agent in Canada. A licensing fee is paid to the Securities Commission as part of the application. The process includes a background check of the applicant.

This will not take more than 48 hours, provided there are no past criminal proceedings, regulatory proceedings, civil proceedings, and bankruptcies.

Congratulations! You are Now a Real Estate Agent.

Now that you’re a fully licensed Real Estate agent, you can decide to go it alone or join a brokerage. Or, you can become a member of a local association and provincial association.
